Jesus

Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?  For we saw His star in the east, and have come to worship Him. Matt 2:2

There is something about a super athlete that draws our attention.  I have an app on my phone that allows me to go to a sports station on the Internet and click on the “must see” choice.  Invariably, there’s a short video of an extraordinary basketball player slamming a unique dunk, a hockey star flipping in an impossible goal, or a lady golfer knocking in a 3 iron from over 200 yards from the stick.

We know from experience, that these great players, who rise to be a cut above the rest, don’t just show up on game day to execute these seemingly unimaginable feats.  An athletic bent, years of practice, strength training, determined focus, and serious coordination and personal sacrifice are only a sample of the attributes of these premier competitors.

Who is the greatest superstar in your book?  Who is the one who stands out in your mind as the ultimate “Must See”?  Amazingly, my phone has another app that allows me to click on a resource that reminds me of the all-time Super Star.

My Bible app opens an inner video of faith inside of me about a God-man who walked this planet in sinless fashion—the only one ever to do that.  It tells me of a person who walked on water, raised people from the dead, forgave people of their sins, told the wind and rain to cease, and healed blind, deaf, crippled and leprous people.  The supernatural God-man’s name is Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the One sent to this earth by His Father to settle once and for all who the real Star is, was, and always will be.

In Him, inherently, there is always abundantly more to report. He also created all life and the potential we have to live, move, and have our being.  In the midst of our idolizing other great performers, we so often forget where all their breath, talent, gifting, and grace of coordination and timing come from.

In the context of being God’s creation, there are legitimate heroes and people who model extraordinary lifestyles that deserve to be recognized.  Our culture, however, has generally fallen away from crediting our Source and dove head long into idol worship of not only sports players, but actors, politicians, musicians, doctors, scientists, singers, comedians, talk show hosts, religious leaders, and even special pets.

Imagine approaching your last breath, where there is no time left to dial up an app on your phone. What would you do?  Among all the choices, there is none more amazing than calling upon The Applicator; the Holy One who never fails and is always available to guide, comfort, and reward us with the hope of eternal life.

Family and friends, The One who gave us breath is the Superstar who has always been, all powerful, all knowing, ever present, reigns in holiness, flawless in thought and action and has sacrificed Himself in such loving fashion.  His name is Jesus Christ, wide open to our eyes of faith as our Creator, Redeemer, Master, Living God, Eternal Rewarder and “the supreme Must See.”
